Eating fish reduces the risk of getting cancer and heart disease claims research.

Eating omega-3 fatty acids or other food items reduces the risk of death due to cancer or cardiovascular diseases. In one study, this claim has been made.

In this new study, 2,40,729 men and 1,80,580 women studied for 16 years. Of this, 54,230 men and 30,882 women died during this period. According to the study, a significant relationship was seen between fishes and omega-3 fatty acids and decrease in total mortality rates.

Researchers at the Jinjiang University of China found that the men who consumed much of the fish were found to be 9 percent of mortality rate and 10 percent decrease in death due to heart-related diseases. At the same time, the probability of the death from cancer decreased by six percent and a decrease of respiratory death by 20 percent. This study has been published in the journal Internal Medicine.

Victoria Taylor, of the British Heart Foundation, said: “Coronary heart disease is the UK’s single biggest killer, devastating the lives of millions of people each year.

Coronary heart disease accounts for half of all cardiovascular deaths

“Reducing your risk is vital and improving your diet is one of the ways you can do this.

“Research has shown that eating fish, particularly oily fish like sardines and salmon can have a positive impact on your heart health as part of a balanced diet – and it’s a simple change that you can make.”

Dr. Harry Rice, from the Global Organisation for EPA and DHA Omega-3s, said: “There are important public health implications in reducing the risk of coronary heart disease.
